Roundtable Discussion with Friends of MSMEs in Parliament

·

·

FISME organized an inaugural meeting of “Friends of MSMEs’- A Forum of Parliamentarians for MSMEs. It was a prestigious meeting which was attended by 14 MPs, primarily from northern India. They participated in the call of Shri. Rajendra Aggarwal, Hon’ble MP, Meerut and agreed to form friends of MSMEs in the Parliament. A series of activities were discussed to be taken up by the Forum.

Over a dozen Members of Parliament cutting across party lines have come forward and formed a group named ‘Friends of MSMEs’.

“Neither Government nor the corporate sector can create over one crore jobs needed every year in India. They could only be created when millions of youth entering the job market opt to be an entrepreneur and set-up MSMEs. But the creation of self-employment opportunities requires an enabling eco-system for MSMEs. It not only requires ease in setting up enterprises but also support in many areas including finance, skills and marketing and that needs to be ensured”
Lok Sabha Member Meerut Shri Rajendra Agrawal, Convenor of Friends of MSMEs in Parliament.

The group intends to study and focus on resolving some of the binding constraints that impede and shackle MSME sector in India.

The group plans to hold consultations with MSMEs before each session of the Parliament to identify the major issues and raise their concerns at various Parliamentary fora and the Government.

Federation of Indian Micro and Small & Medium Enterprises (FISME)- the national MSME body, is to function as the Secretariat of Friends of MSMEs.

Accepting the responsibility and applauding the visionary approach of the MPs, President FISME Prashant Patel pledged to provide the institutional and research support to the group to sharpen the debate on MSME issues.

The Members of Parliament were keen to take feed-back on the impact of various MSME focused initiatives of the Central government taken in the recent past such as Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme and Budget announcements to encourage timely payment to MSMEs.
